Saturna Island

Saturna Island, is a mountainous and forested island, with over 50% of its area protected as federal, provincial and regional parkland.  There is excellent biking along the shoreline to whale- watching at East Point Park and exceptional walking trails and paths.  Saturna is considered to have one of the best land-based whale-watching locations in the world.  The island has regular ferry service to both the mainland and Vancouver Island and floatplanes serve Saturna year-round.  It is home to an excellent winery that boasts it’s own dock, an excellent bistro, and some of the most beautiful vineyards in Canada.  Saturna’s farms and seafood provide for gourmet, sustainable zero-mile meals.  Saturna is home to SIMRES, an active and renown citizen-led marine research and education organization emphasizing the understanding and protection of whales.  Saturna has an active arts and volunteer community, with the renown annual Canada Day Lamb BBQ at Winter Cove Park.  There are concerts, community dinners, art exhibits and open studios, an excellent library, a lively pub, fine dining, catering, B&B’s, shuttle service, seasonal water taxi’s and an active and caring community of incredible residents.  In this rare haven, people still greet each other in passing cars with a wave and a smile.
