Design philosophy focused on the intentional preservation of the pristine integrity of the site, minimizing impact and intrusion into natural systems and protecting existing trees, vegetation, landforms and wildlife.  Equal focus addressed highlighting and maximizing surrounding views, sun exposures, enhancing site amenities, highlighting key landforms and allowing the unique qualities of this magnificent site to create a deep and rich experience.  The spiritual qualities of this special property are transformational.  The buildings are rooted and belong.

Beautiful, comfortable, and efficient spaces contribute to the compound’s easy livability.  Best quality materials, systems and construction provide for durability and easy maintenance.  A concerted effort was made to reduce embodied and operational carbon in our built environment.

Sustainable infrastructure links the structures with efficient ocean loop geo-exchange providing luxuriant radiant in-floor heat to the buildings. A roof water catchment system protects the aquifers and provides for potable water with state-of-the-art filtration.  This system stores water in a 16,000 imperial gallon storage tank providing large capacity storage and minimal impact, with an attached room for wine storage. In addition, there are also two wells on the site, with one used for watering landscaping.

The compounds stone and cedar shingle-clad buildings are designed to respect and blend with the site, creating harmony with nature.  This integrative design philosophy uses the finest materials, systems, and construction methods and was built for an architect/ owner and designed in conjunction with a structural engineer.  Heavy timber glue-lam beam construction is utilized with vaulted ceilings and covered outdoor spaces.  The construction showcases some of the very finest craftmanship, stonework, and materials available. The magnificent stone fireplace anchors the heart of the home providing for elemental evenings by the fire. The custom-designed efficient Rumford-style firebox reflects heat back into the home.

Natural and local materials seamlessly integrate the buildings into the site and weave nature throughout the interior.  Expansive natural light graces the interiors. The large windows and skylights bring the experience of the Salish Sea ecosystem indoors and capture the sun and the sky. Every room is surrounded in breathtaking views.  The experience and beauty of nature, and the abundant wildlife that abounds are up-close from both the indoors and outdoors in this private ecological paradise.  Ancient trees, lush native vegetation, rocky outcrops and the exceptional varied shoreline are timeless and spectacular.

This superbly crafted multiple building compound embraces sustainability.  The careful construction of this compact design uses energy and resource efficient features, providing a small ecological footprint with minimal intrusion into the pristine landscape.  Separate guest quarters allow for privacy and contribute to the tranquil, energy efficient and conscious lifestyle.
